Project Pan 2021 – Decluttering My Beauty Stash

2021’s beauty decluttering project is here! (Check out what I used up in 2020 in this post) Project Pan, inspired by Beauty News, is a plan to completely use up beauty products to get them out of my collection. I don’t want to waste them and just throw them away if they still work fine for me. It’s also a way to remember if something actually works well, or if you’re just keeping it for no reason. I’m mainly doing this using up products because they’re super old and I want them gone. I prefer to mark the line on the bottle when you can see through it, but for other products where that’s not possible I’m keeping track by weight (using an old food scale, don’t judge me). I’ll update this post with progress pictures from the year, as well as my thoughts on the products!

Hair/Body

Shea Moisture Low Porosity Protein Free Conditioner – This is nice for my low-porosity hair, but I have other conditioners that I like better, so I want to finish this one soon. I like mixing this in a spray bottle of water when I need to refresh my hair, so maybe that’ll help me get through it quicker. Would repurchase

Bath & Body Works Body Lotion in Black Amethyst – I LOVE the scent of this lotion! My body care stash still has like 7-8 different lotions and sprays, so I want to get through them before I buy anymore. Once I finish them up, I’m definitely repurchasing this. Would repurchase

Skincare

Niacinamide Toner – I bought this toner from a brand that I’m no longer supporting, so I pulled the label off and added it to the project so I can get rid of it. It’s a nice toner, but there’s others I like better from brands I support. Would not repurchase

Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Ultra-Fine Mist – A couple years ago, I tried this mist and loved it, but I don’t like it as much anymore. The sprayer is great and has a very fine mist (like the name says), but the watermelon scent is overpowering, and the formula isn’t very hydrating. Hopefully I can refill this bottle with another mist when it’s empty. Would not repurchase

ELF Daily Hydration Moisturizer – Originally I picked this up to use on my skin after a workout. It’s a nice basic moisturizer with a light scent of cucumber, but I’ve got other moisturizers that I like better. A good choice for someone new to skincare though. Would not repurchase

Inkey List Brighten-i Eye Cream – I’m such a big Inkey List fan, I had to try one of their eye creams. This is a basic cream that hydrates my under eyes, and has ingredients that are supposed to help brighten dark circles. Mine are genetic so I don’t see much difference, but I’m ok with that. This isn’t my favorite eye cream ever, but I would repurchase it

Biossance Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil – LOVE this facial oil! It’s lightweight and doesn’t feel greasy on my combination skin, and I can layer it over moisturizer to lock in hydration if my skin is extra dry. I wish Biossance would stop with the “clean beauty” marketing – read my full thoughts on clean beauty in this post. Would repurchase with a coupon or sale

Sunday Riley Luna Retinol Sleeping Night Oil – This sample size was a 100 point perk from Sephora that I picked up on Caroline Hirons’ recommendation, and I’m so glad I did! Luna is a lightweight oil that quickly absorbs into my skin, and the retinol is gentle and a good level for beginners. I want to keep protecting my almost-30-year-old skin, so this will be in my routine for a while. Would repurchase (I already bought a full size)

Makeup

Smashbox Photo Finish Primer – I got this primer in gratis from Sephora a while ago, so it’s time to use it up. It’s a nice smoothing primer that I like layering over sunscreen or other skincare that leaves me a little shinier than I’d like. This was full the middle of 2020, so hopefully I can finish it in a few months. Would repurchase, but also interested in trying a drugstore version

Glossier Stretch Concealer in G4 – I picked up a few Glossier products in June 2020 after their BLM response (Read more about the other Glossier products I purchased in this post). Unfortunately since then, the Instagram account @outtathegloss came out stating that Glossier wasn’t taking care of their employees, so I’m not interested in repurchasing anything from this brand any time soon. This concealer is fine, a little too pink for my skin even though it’s ‘golden’, but lightweight enough for everyday use. Would not repurchase

ELF Brow Pencil in Neutral Brown – This ELF eyebrow pencil is fine – a good shade for my skin tone, and the texture is nice. The point could be a little smaller, but it’s fine for me. I honestly don’t see much difference between high-end and low-end brow pencils, so I’d pick this up again. Would repurchase
