New Year’s resolutions are cool, but what if you just want ~good vibes~ for the new year? That’s what I want, so here’s the two steps I used to set intentions for 2023.
Intention Setting Tip 1: YearCompass
The first thing I did when figuring out my 2023 intentions was to fill out a YearCompass. This is a free booklet with two parts: the first is to reflect on the past year, and the second is for planning the upcoming year.
I learned about the YearCompass from Candice Brathwaite on Instagram. She made a video talking about how much this booklet helped her in 2022 and how many things she wrote down that came true, and I had to try it. Manifesting your dreams can sound a little -woo woo- to be honest, but I do believe there’s something to it.
Filling out the YearCompass took me about 3 hours total, two hours on the reflections and another hour on planning. I usually don’t do any kind of reflections at the end of the year, but it was a really nice experience! Definitely something I think I’m going to start doing each year.

Intention Setting Tip 2: Digital Vision Board
The second thing I did was make a digital vision board. I’ve made physical vision boards before by cutting up magazines and gluing the pictures to a canvas. This year I wanted a digital version that was less messy and easier to keep in front of me at all times. I searched Pinterest for images that reflected the goals I from my YearCompass and saved them to a secret board. I then made them into a collage on Canva and set it as my laptop and phone backgrounds.
A few of the points from my vision board include living a more minimal-ish life (not full minimalist, just minimalist-ish), going to fun events monthly, and prioritizing more of the values that really matter to me. I’m excited to declutter stuff that I’ve moved with over the last 7 years, and making my house more colorful and fun.
I’m also looking forward to spending more time on self-care activities that look out for future me. Not just typical things like bubble baths (although I love those), but things like staying organized and planning more. That way, future me can look back and be thankful that past me took the time to take care of things.
So that’s it! Two steps I took to set intentions and good vibes for 2023. If resolutions aren’t your thing but you want to do something to look forward to this new year, maybe try these tips!
