Sharana (aka The Manicured Scientist) is a 31 year old forensic scientist and beauty enthusiast. Born and raised in Connecticut, her love of TV shows like Forensic Files and CSI led her into double majoring in Forensic Science and Chemistry at the University of New Haven. After graduating in 2012, she worked as a chemist for three years before moving to Philadelphia for graduate school. She earned a Master’s degree in Forensic Toxicology from Thomas Jefferson University in 2017, and has lived in the city ever since.

One of Sharana’s goals is to break stereotypes about female scientists, and share that women in STEM are multifaceted too! (We’re more than just our job titles) She knows that burnout is common in this field, and hopes that she can inspire other women in STEM to stop giving so much to their jobs and start giving back to themselves. Sharana shares both her life as a scientist and her hobbies and passions outside of work, and hopes that her story will inspire other women in STEM to take care of themselves in a meaningful way.

Some of Sharana’s hobbies include giving herself fun manicures, reviewing products for the best no-makeup makeup look, and testing effective yet affordable skincare. She also enjoys listening to podcasts, crocheting new projects, and playing with her cat Pineapple.
